Stress Busters

Posted by

Some people think stress is just a part of life. After all, there are bills to pay, not enough hours in the day to do all we have to do at work and then there are the family responsibilities . . .

When things are spinning, when you seem to have lost control of your lifestyle, thoughts, emotions, and the way you deal with problems, the best thing you can do is to take a time-out. A time-out allows you to take control and get out of the pattern or cycle you are in at the moment. Science has proven that focusing on the present moment, not worrying about the past or the future, helps bring calm.

One of the best things you can do is to simply meditate or sit in the quiet for a few minutes. However, if you are one of those people who needs to be doing something and finds it hard to just sit still, here are a few of our favorite things to do during your time-out.

Innerspirit RattleHold onto or shake an Innerspirit Rattle. Just holding this cool, smooth raku rattle will feel good, and shaking it is an instant de-stressor. Shake it to a rhythm, perhaps to your favorite song, and you will rattle your worries away in no time.

Toss a Good Medicine Ball back and forth between your hands or toss it into the air. Take a deep breath. The ball feels wonderful in your hands and the lavender aroma will help to calm you down.

Let It Go StoneFocus on an object while breathing slowly. This technique tricks the mind into staying in the present moment and helps to still the mind, allowing you to relax. A stone, such as our Let It Go engraved stone, is the perfect size and can go with you anywhere (hint, hint: to the office).

Laugh – yes, force yourself to laugh. Did you know laughter – even forced laughter – lowers your blood pressure, reduces stress hormone levels, triggers the release of endorphins, and produces a Habit Rabbitgeneral sense of well-being? When you look at this little Habit Rabbit, you'll find yourself smiling and be reminded to laugh. This object is also small enough to fit into a pocket or purse and will fit into just about any space on a desk or in an office.

Try a few of these techniques and we know you will feel better and uplifted!

“Words are like eggs dropped from great heights; you can no more call them back than ignore the mess they leave when they fall." Three Little Words Will Change Everything

It's so important to be aware of our language and how we say something. Here's a quick, feel-good tip borrowed from NY Times best-selling author Pam Grout. When you catch yourself saying something negative about yourself, turn those statements around by adding "up until now" to the end. For example, someone might say, "I'm having a [...]
