It Really Is the Little Things

Posted by

"The little things? The little moments? They aren't little.” ~ Jon Kabat-Zinn

When I first opened my brick-and-mortar store I filled it with artwork, comfort items, books, journals – lots of the same things I now sell in my e-commerce store. My intention was to offer inspiration to folks in whatever manner best suited them.

One area I totally underestimated was the impact of – what I call - the little things. As people would come in and tell their stories of a friend or relative in need of a pick-me-up or thought-provoking word or “just something to help them feel better,” I found myself going to the token table – the place where we kept the many different types of tokens and stones we sold. I found myself expressing a new belief and saying, "Sometimes the smallest thing is all that's needed to help someone feel better."

And that is why we carry guardian angel tokens, engraved stones, pop-open cards, soapstone hearts, and Shannon Martin magnets (to name a few little things). Because the little things are really big things when it comes to bringing meaning and inspiration to someone (or to yourself).

Three Little Words Will Change Everything

It's so important to be aware of our language and how we say something. Here's a quick, feel-good tip borrowed from NY Times best-selling author Pam Grout. When you catch yourself saying something negative about yourself, turn those statements around by adding "up until now" to the end. For example, someone might say, "I'm having a [...]

I Could Have Kissed That Girl!
