What's Your Word?

"There's a word meant for you. When you find it, live it, and share it . . .

your life will become more exciting and purposeful than ever."  - Dan Britton

We know words are powerful. They have the power to inspire, encourage, heal, appreciate, and create possibilities. That's why I love having words all over the place and why I used to say to customers when I had my brick-and-mortar store, "We're all about the words." (Now I'm grateful I can say that about my online store as well.)

I'm a big believer in choosing a word for the coming year to be my focus and provide clarity. I've just finished working through my favorite book on this topic, One Word That Will Change Your Life, and I encourage you to give it a try.

How do you get to your one word? The authors of the book have a simple prescription and for me the most compelling piece is to prepare your heart to receive the word. You do this by unplugging, sitting in silence and asking these questions:

- What do I need?

- What's in my way?

- What needs to go?

Then listen up and take notice. Maybe your word will come to you in meditation or maybe it will hit you out of the blue as you're reading something or having a conversation with someone. I get lots of good stuff in the shower! Regardless of how it comes to you, you'll know it's the right one because it will feel good, you will be drawn to it and it will answer the three questions above.

So what's your one word for 2016?

  • one word
  • words are powerful
